On November 20th, Serica Initiative’s CEO Dinner series welcomed Richard Park. Dr. Richard Park is a healthcare entrepreneur, investor, and board-certified emergency medicine physician. He is the CEO and Co-founder of Rendr, a primary care-focused, multi-specialty physician group dedicated to serving the Asian community in New York City, operating close to 100 clinical sites across Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. In 2010, Dr. Park founded CityMD, an urgent care practice that expanded to over 130 locations in the Greater New York area before merging with Summit Medical Group in 2019. He is also the Co-Managing Partner of Ascend Capital Partners, a private equity fund investing in healthcare service providers. Dr. Park earned his MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a BS from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Park discussed the importance of cultural competence in healthcare delivery, emphasizing how understanding and respecting cultural differences can enhance patient care and health outcomes. He shared insights from his experience with Rendr, highlighting the challenges and successes in providing healthcare services tailored to the Asian American community in New York City. Dr. Park also explored the role of standardization in healthcare processes, drawing parallels from his time at CityMD, where he focused on reducing variation through standardized clinical protocols and workflows. Additionally, he addressed the evolution of value-based care, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and discussed strategies for meeting patients where they are, including the expansion of telehealth and in-home care services.
