On September 14th, Serica Deputy Director, Daniel Tam-Claiborne, joined our friends at Mixed Asian Media (MAM) for Mixed Asian Day in Los Angeles to moderate a panel of acclaimed mixed-race Asian American authors, including Mei-Mei Holland (Year of the Cicada), Jasmin Iolani Hakes (Hula), Sarah Kuhn (Heroine Complex novels), and Christine Mari (HALFWAY THERE).
MAM aims to bring together an inclusive community that truly embraces the diversity of Asian Pacifica identities, including those of Asian adoptees. Every individual brings a unique perspective that enriches our collective narrative. MAM created this day alongside Leviathan Lab to celebrate what it means to be mixed Asian.
Serica collaborated with MAM for last year's Mixed Asian Day in NY where we held a screening of Between Black & White: Asian Americans Speak Out and moderated a panel discussion. This time around, in addition to moderating a panel discussion, we screened an excerpt of our Viet Thanh Nguyen episode from be/longing: Asian Americans Now.
